Megahome's three household distillers, the MH-943TWS, MH-943SBS and MH-943SWS, are built around the same core: a 4-litre boiling chamber in #304 stainless steel, a 580 W heater-and-fan system, an activated-carbon post-filter and automatic shut-off. For most homes the choice therefore comes down to exterior finish, a glass or PP collection bottle, and the version made for your country's mains voltage. The lower-powered MH-DA4B (340 W) is intended for specialist, small-batch work rather than everyday drinking water.
That is a less dramatic answer than many buying guides give, but it is the honest one. Below we set out what the models share, where they differ, which questions actually matter before you choose, and what to expect once a distiller is on your counter. If you're new to distillation, start with how a water distiller works.
What do all Megahome distillers have in common?
- The same process. Water is boiled in a stainless-steel chamber, the steam rises into a stainless steam dome, condenses in a fan-cooled #304 stainless condensing tube, and drips through an activated-carbon post-filter into the collection bottle.
- #304 stainless steel as standard. Every current model uses #304 stainless steel for the boiling chamber. If you see a listing elsewhere that describes a Megahome chamber as 316 stainless, treat #304 as the correct specification.
- 4 litres per batch. The 580 W household models take about 5.5–6 hours per batch.
- Automatic shut-off. The unit switches itself off at the end of a batch. You don't need a plug-in timer, and damage caused by external timers is not covered by the warranty.
- No plumbing. Fill it with tap water, plug it in and switch it on.
- The same consumables. Activated-carbon sachets, which Megahome's manual says to replace within 25 days, and citric-acid descaling cleaner.
- A one-year manufacturer's warranty, in addition to any statutory rights you have where you live.
How do the four models compare?
| Model | Name in our catalogue | Power | Capacity | Boiling chamber | Intended use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| MH-943TWS | Home Distiller HE | 580 W | 4 L | #304 stainless steel | Everyday household water |
| MH-943SBS | Stainless Steel Distiller | 580 W | 4 L | #304 stainless steel | Everyday household water |
| MH-943SWS | Stainless Steel Distiller (White) | 580 W | 4 L | #304 stainless steel | Everyday household water |
| MH-DA4B | Special-Purpose Distiller | 340 W | 4 L | #304 stainless steel | Specialist, small-batch water distillation |
According to Megahome's manual, the 580 W household models measure about 23.5 cm across and 36 cm high and weigh about 3.4 kg, so any of them fits on a standard kitchen counter.
MH-943TWS: Home Distiller HE
This is the model most owners know. It has a white painted-steel housing around the stainless water path, and its main US Amazon listing shows 4.6★ from 1,613 ratings as of September 2026. Choose it if you want the familiar, widely reviewed household distiller in white. See the MH-943TWS page.
MH-943SBS: Stainless Steel Distiller
The same core with a stainless-steel finish on the outside. In a hands-on review published in January 2026, Bob Vila labelled the MH-943SBS its “Safest Water Distiller” pick. Its US Amazon listing shows 4.5★ from 310 ratings as of September 2026. Choose it if you prefer a metal finish that sits alongside other stainless appliances. See the MH-943SBS page.
MH-943SWS: Stainless Steel Distiller (White)
The white edition of the stainless-steel distiller: the same stainless water path in a white housing. Its US Amazon listing shows 4.7★ from 269 ratings as of September 2026. Choose it if you like the stainless-steel model's design but want it in white. See the MH-943SWS page.
MH-DA4B: Special-Purpose Distiller
A lower-powered unit rated at 340 W instead of 580 W, with a 4-litre capacity. It is for distilling water only: never use it for petroleum products, isopropyl alcohol, high-concentration alcohol or any other hazardous liquid, and follow the manual supplied with the unit. If you have a particular application in mind, ask Megahome first. For everyday drinking water, the 580 W household models are the natural choice. See the MH-DA4B page.
Which household model should you choose?
- You want the most widely reviewed option: MH-943TWS.
- You want a stainless-steel exterior: MH-943SBS.
- You want white, from the stainless-steel line: MH-943SWS.
- Your local seller stocks only some versions: choose from what is available. Inside, the three household models do the same job in the same way.
Not every model, finish and bottle combination is sold in every country, so check Where to buy for your region.
Should you choose a glass or PP collection bottle?
- Glass means the finished water is stored in glass rather than plastic. On glass-bottle versions the spout is PP with a ceramic lining. Glass is heavier: a packed set with a glass bottle weighs about 6.0 kg, against about 5.2 kg with PP.
- PP is lighter and won't shatter if it slips, which suits busy kitchens and homes with young children.
Collection bottles count as consumables and are not covered by the warranty, so handle a glass bottle with care.
Which voltage version do you need?
Megahome builds its household models in versions for different mains supplies, and the warranty excludes damage caused by using the wrong voltage. Buy the version sold for your country rather than importing one and running it through a converter.
| Version | Rated supply |
|---|---|
| Taiwan edition | 110 V, 60 Hz |
| US edition (UL manual) | 120 V, 60 Hz |
| Models ending “-SW” | 230 V or 240 V, 50/60 Hz |
| Models ending “-SW-22” | 220 V, 50/60 Hz |
Is there a model for well water?
No current Megahome model is sold specifically for well water. Megahome's European instruction manual advises against distilling river, well or sea water in its standard stainless-steel models. If your home relies on a private well, read can you use a water distiller with well water? and contact Megahome before you choose.
What should you expect as an owner?
Owner reviews are broadly positive. On the two largest US listings, 86–92% of mentions of overall quality and 83–86% of mentions of taste are positive. Owners are also clear about the trade-offs, which apply whichever model you choose:
- Time: about 5.5–6 hours per 4-litre batch on the 580 W models, so a distiller suits households that plan ahead.
- Noise: the cooling fan is the most common complaint. A Japanese dealer lists 56 dB at 30 cm and 52 dB at 1 m. If the fan gets noticeably louder over time, have it checked rather than ignoring it.
- Heat: some owners notice the unit warms a small room while it runs.
- Durability: rated as mixed on US listings, with 59–70% of mentions positive. The fault named most often is the thermal reset switch, typically after one to two years, and scale baked onto the chamber floor makes it trip early. Replacement parts exist for the common faults.
- Upkeep: descale at least once a month, more often with hard water, and replace the carbon sachet within 25 days. Our guide to cleaning and descaling a water distiller walks you through it.
Looked after properly, a distiller can be a long-term appliance. University of Nebraska–Lincoln Extension says a good distiller with proper care should last 10 to 15 years, and Megahome owners report 6, 8 and 9+ years of daily use.
Who makes Megahome distillers?
